Live duels, a duel overhaul and sound

Duels are your favourite mode, so it was time they got a big update: a new format, a completely redesigned flow and, for the first time, sound.

New: live duels (beta)

Until now, a duel was played on your own, whenever you liked. A live duel is played together, at the same time.

  • In casual duels, pick the Live format when you start your challenge. Your room is open to everyone or to a friend, and the duel starts as soon as your opponent arrives.
  • Each of you brings a deck of 6 games from your collection, no more than 2 of the same rarity. Each round, a game is drawn from each deck in turn, and you both guess its critic score, in 15 seconds.
  • You each have 100 health. Every point away from the critic score costs 1, up to 40 per round. The first one to reach zero loses.
  • If nobody has fallen once both decks have been played, it's sudden death: a random game, and double damage.

This mode is in beta and its rules may still change. Tell me what you think with “Send feedback”, in your menu, or on Discord!

The duel overhaul

  • Starting or accepting a challenge now happens step by step: the mode, the format, the opponent, your cards and, in ranked, the banned games. A bar shows you at all times where you are and what you've already picked.
  • New in ranked: bans. When you start a challenge, you can forbid up to 2 games, picked from the whole catalogue, that your opponent won't be allowed to hide: the ones you find too easy, or too obscure. This step is optional.
  • Card selection can now be sorted by recent cards, name, score or year.
  • Casual, Ranked, Investigation and Live each have their own icon, so you can tell them apart at a glance.

Sound!

  • Live duels have their own soundtrack: the countdown, every hit you take (heavier the bigger the hit), the K.O., victory and defeat.
  • So do investigations: the start of each round, each time the cover gets sharper, the right or wrong answer, and the duel result.
  • When opening packs, every card flips with a real card sound, and Epics, Legendaries and Mythics announce themselves with chimes — more of them the rarer the card. I'll let you discover what a golden card sounds like…
  • A speaker button mutes the sound, in duels as well as when opening packs. Your choice is remembered.
